Online counselling in North Vancouver, BC
The North Shore has its own public front door, which asks for a referral, and two bridges to everywhere else.
Online counselling for people in North Vancouver is delivered by secure video by Registered Clinical Counsellors registered with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, in English, Punjabi or Tagalog depending on the counsellor, with a free first consultation and no referral needed.
Also serving West Vancouver, Lower Lonsdale, Lynn Valley, Deep Cove, Bowen Island, Lions Bay and the rest of North Shore, by the same video sessions.

Many extended health plans reimburse a Registered Clinical Counsellor, depending on the plan, so check yours; MSP does not. Receipts are issued for every session, and the fees are published in full.
North Vancouver is two municipalities, the City and the District, and together with West Vancouver they make up what everybody calls the North Shore. It is its own corner of Vancouver Coastal Health, with Lions Gate Hospital, a mental-health centre on the hospital campus and a public intake team that also covers Bowen Island and Lions Bay. What the Shore does not have is a short way to anywhere else.
Two road bridges and the SeaBus carry it across Burrard Inlet, and in the 2021 Census about two in three North Shore commuters with a usual workplace worked outside the municipality they live in. A weekly appointment across the water adds a crossing to both ends. A Registered Clinical Counsellor by secure video does not, from Deep Cove to Horseshoe Bay.
How private is the video?
Bookings and client records are held in Cliniko, the practice’s booking and records system, in an account on Cliniko’s Canadian region. Records are encrypted and access-controlled. Sessions are by secure video: the link arrives by email and opens in your browser, with nothing to install. Sessions are never recorded, not for notes, not for supervision, not for training. The privacy policy sets out the rest.

One front door, and it opens with a referral
The public route starts with somebody else's signature. Vancouver Coastal Health's Central Intake Team at the HOpe Centre, on the Lions Gate Hospital campus, connects adults 19 and over in North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Bowen Island and Lions Bay with public mental-health and substance-use care. It asks for a referral from a family doctor or a walk-in clinic first. Without a family doctor, that is a step before the step. The North Vancouver Urgent and Primary Care Centre offers same-day care for urgent concerns, low mood, anxiety and depression included.
Private counselling needs none of that. A Registered Clinical Counsellor is booked directly: no referral, no diagnosis, and no bearing on a public list you are already on. The two run side by side, and starting one does not mean giving up the other.
The bridges are the commute. The Lions Gate and the Ironworkers Memorial carry about 60,000 and 125,000 trips a day between them, by the Province's count, and the SeaBus crossing from Lonsdale Quay takes twelve minutes before the walk at either end. From Lynn Valley, Deep Cove or Dundarave, an office downtown starts with a bus or a bridge. The Vancouver page describes the city's side of the same arithmetic.
Bowen Island and Lions Bay are further out again. Bowen is reached by BC Ferries from Horseshoe Bay, so any appointment on the mainland begins with a sailing; Lions Bay sits up the Sea-to-Sky. Both are inside the North Shore's public intake area, and both are identical to Lonsdale by video.
A university and a hospital set a lot of the Shore's calendar. Capilano University's main campus is in North Vancouver, and Lions Gate Hospital runs on rosters. Terms and rotations change week to week, which is where a fixed weekly slot across the water usually fails first. The pages for university students and healthcare and shift workers cover what tends to come up.
Language on the Shore follows its own numbers. In the 2021 Census, Tagalog was the mother tongue of 1,675 people in the City of North Vancouver, more than French, and third there after English and Persian. Punjabi is far smaller: 745 people across all three municipalities. Tagalog-speaking counselling for North Vancouver and Punjabi-speaking counselling for the North Shore say what each means in practice.
Why virtual, specifically here
What changes when distance stops mattering
No bridge either way
The Lions Gate, the Ironworkers Memorial or the SeaBus add a crossing to both ends of an appointment across the water. A video session adds none.
No referral first
The public intake on the North Shore asks for a referral from a family doctor or walk-in clinic. Seeing a Registered Clinical Counsellor privately does not.
Deep Cove to Horseshoe Bay, Bowen and Lions Bay
Lower Lonsdale, Lynn Valley, Deep Cove, West Vancouver, Bowen Island and Lions Bay on identical terms, with no sailing and no drive for being further out.
Around a term or a roster
University terms and hospital rotations change week to week. Sessions are booked block by block, and the booking calendar shows each counsellor's real open times.
Not sure which kind of support fits? A free 30-minute consultation is the fastest way to find out, and it is a fine outcome if the answer is a referral somewhere else.

Before you book
Which health authority covers North Vancouver?
Vancouver Coastal Health, the same authority as Vancouver, but the North Shore has its own intake. The Central Intake Team at the HOpe Centre, on the Lions Gate Hospital campus, serves adults in North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Bowen Island and Lions Bay, and asks for a referral from a family doctor or walk-in clinic. Private counselling runs alongside it rather than instead of it.
I don’t have a family doctor. Where do I start?
A walk-in clinic can make the referral to Central Intake, and the North Vancouver Urgent and Primary Care Centre offers same-day care for urgent concerns, low mood and anxiety included. 8-1-1 connects to HealthLink BC at any hour. Seeing a Registered Clinical Counsellor privately needs no referral at all, so it can start while the public route is still being arranged.
Isn’t the SeaBus quick enough to see someone downtown?
For some people it is, and if an office near Waterfront suits you, that is a reasonable choice. The crossing itself is twelve minutes; the trip is the walk or bus to Lonsdale Quay, the wait, the crossing and the walk at the far end, twice. Travel is one of the ordinary reasons a course of counselling stops early, and video takes it out.
Can I have sessions from Bowen Island?
Yes, on exactly the same terms as anywhere on the Shore, with no sailing either way. The one thing worth doing first is testing the connection from the room you would use, and the free 30-minute consultation is a good moment to do it.
Is there anything free or low-cost on the North Shore?
Yes. The Canadian Mental Health Association’s North and West Vancouver branch runs short-term, low-cost counselling for adults 19 and over who live on the North Shore. Family Services of the North Shore offers affordable and sometimes subsidized counselling. Foundry North Shore has drop-in counselling for young people aged 12 to 24. If one of those fits, use it.
Can I have EMDR from North Vancouver?
Yes, by secure video, with the same preparation and pacing as in a room. What changes is the end of the session: it finishes where you live, not at the foot of the Lions Gate or in the SeaBus line at Waterfront, and the quiet stretch EMDR often asks for afterwards can start straight away.
Can sessions run in Tagalog or Punjabi?
Yes, with the counsellor who speaks each. Tagalog is available for individual counselling, couples sessions and EMDR. Punjabi is available for individual counselling; couples sessions and EMDR currently run in English or Tagalog. Moving between a language and English inside one session is normal.
Do you see people in West Vancouver, Lower Lonsdale, Lynn Valley, Deep Cove, Bowen Island or Lions Bay?
Yes, on exactly the same terms as North Vancouver. Every session is by secure video, so West Vancouver, Lower Lonsdale, Lynn Valley, Deep Cove, Bowen Island, Lions Bay and the rest of North Shore are served the same way: a Registered Clinical Counsellor, a free 30-minute consultation first, and no travel at either end.
Who would I see in North Vancouver?
People in North Vancouver see Camille Granda, RCC, CCC, who works in English and Tagalog or Savneet Singh, RCC, who works in English and Punjabi. Each is a Registered Clinical Counsellor taking new clients by secure video, and the free consultation is with whichever of them you choose, so the person you meet first is the person you would work with.
Do you have an office in North Vancouver, or is it online?
Online. There is no office in North Vancouver or anywhere else: every session is by secure video, and the confirmation email carries the link. Nothing to install and no waiting room, so you can join from home, a parked car or a closed office in North Vancouver.
