Online counselling in Cranbrook, BC
The East Kootenay keeps Alberta’s clock, so every open time on a BC booking calendar needs translating first.
Online counselling for people in Cranbrook is delivered by secure video by Registered Clinical Counsellors registered with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, in English, Punjabi or Tagalog depending on the counsellor, with a free first consultation and no referral needed.
Also serving Kimberley, Fernie, Sparwood, Elkford, Invermere, Radium Hot Springs and the rest of East Kootenay, by the same video sessions.
Updated October 2, 2026
Many extended health plans reimburse a Registered Clinical Counsellor, depending on the plan, so check yours; MSP does not. Receipts are issued for every session, and the fees are published in full.
Cranbrook is the East Kootenay’s regional centre. East Kootenay Regional Hospital is here, College of the Rockies has its main campus here, and Interior Health runs a mental-health and substance-use centre in the city. What sets Cranbrook apart from every other BC city with a page on this site is smaller and more practical: the clock. The East Kootenay keeps Alberta’s time, an hour ahead of the rest of the province.
That hour matters more than it sounds. This practice’s booking calendar is written in Pacific time, and a first appointment read on the wrong clock arrives an hour early or an hour late, at exactly the point where starting was hardest. Virtual counselling with a Registered Clinical Counsellor takes the highway out of getting help. This page is also about taking the guesswork out of when.
How private is the video?
Bookings and client records are held in Cliniko, the practice’s booking and records system, in an account on Cliniko’s Canadian region. Records are encrypted and access-controlled. Sessions are by secure video: the link arrives by email and opens in your browser, with nothing to install. Sessions are never recorded, not for notes, not for supervision, not for training. The privacy policy sets out the rest.

An hour ahead, and two valleys apart
The East Kootenay chose Alberta’s clock, and kept it. On 14 August 2026 the Regional District of East Kootenay voted to stop changing clocks and stay on Mountain Daylight Time all year. From 1 November 2026 the rest of British Columbia stays on Pacific time all year. The two never meet: Cranbrook, Kimberley, Fernie, Sparwood, Elkford, Invermere and Radium Hot Springs are an hour ahead of the booking calendar in every season. Golden moves to UTC-7 all year on the same date, and Creston stopped changing its clocks long ago, so both share the calendar’s clock and are not counted here.
So translate once, at the start, and then stop worrying about it. The booking calendar shows each counsellor’s real open times in Pacific time. Add an hour for Cranbrook. The booking page labels its times as Pacific time; if a time on the confirmation looks wrong, raise it before the first session.
The Elk Valley sets the working week. Elk Valley Resources runs four steelmaking coal mines in the valley, with jobs for about 5,500 people. A rotating roster makes a fixed weekly slot fragile, so the plan is built from the roster outward: sessions clustered in the stretch off, lighter during a block, and a restart agreed before a long run of shifts. Counselling for rotational and camp workers covers the wider pattern.
A site incident does not stay on site. Haul roads, heavy equipment and blasting carry real risk, and in a valley this size the crew who saw it and the families who heard about it live in the same few towns. When one event keeps replaying, EMDR therapy is one structured way to work on it, by video from a room at home.
The public route is Interior Health, and it is worth using. Calling 310-MHSU (6478) is how to self-refer to Interior Health’s mental-health and substance-use services, which in the city run from the Cranbrook centre. Foundry East Kootenay, hosted by Ktunaxa Kinbasket Child and Family Services, sees people aged 12 to 24 free of charge. The Interior Crisis Line Network answers at 1-888-353-2273 at any hour, and 9-8-8 reaches the national line. Private counselling runs alongside all of these, not instead of them.
Language is thin here, and this page says so plainly. In the 2021 Census about 500 people across the East Kootenay could hold a conversation in Punjabi and 530 in Tagalog: communities in the hundreds, too small to make a local counsellor in either language likely. Punjabi-speaking counselling for Cranbrook and Tagalog counselling for Cranbrook say what those numbers mean.

Pacific calendar, Mountain clock
Open times are listed in Pacific time, and the booking page says so. Add an hour in Cranbrook, in every season.
Around the roster, not the calendar week
Sessions cluster in the stretch off and thin out during a block, so a rotation that moves does not have to end the work.
Kimberley to the Elk Valley
Kimberley, Fernie, Sparwood, Elkford, Invermere and Radium Hot Springs, all on Cranbrook’s Mountain clock and on Cranbrook’s terms.
Out of sight of the front desk
Where the person at reception may be a teammate’s parent or a neighbour from the next street, a session from your own room skips the front desk altogether.
Not sure which kind of support fits? A free 30-minute consultation is the fastest way to find out, and it is a fine outcome if the answer is a referral somewhere else.

Before you book
What time is my session in Cranbrook?
One hour later than the booking calendar shows. The calendar is in Pacific time; Cranbrook, Kimberley and the Elk Valley keep Mountain Daylight Time all year, so the gap is the same hour in every season, including after BC stops changing its clocks on 1 November 2026. If a time on your confirmation looks wrong, raise it before the first session.
I work rotating shifts at a mine. Can counselling fit around that?
Yes, and the roster is a good thing to bring to the first conversation. Sessions can sit in the stretch off, move with the rotation, or pause through a long block with the restart already agreed, so the plan follows the schedule rather than the other way round.
Which health authority covers Cranbrook?
Interior Health. Calling 310-MHSU (6478) is the self-referral route to its mental-health and substance-use services, and the Cranbrook centre lists counselling and treatment, group counselling and opioid agonist treatment among what it offers. Seeing a private counsellor as well does not take you off anything there.
Is there something free I should look at first?
Yes. If you are 12 to 24, Foundry East Kootenay in Cranbrook, run by Ktunaxa Kinbasket Child and Family Services Society, offers free counselling. At any age the Interior Health centre is the public route, and this site’s free and low-cost counselling page lists reduced-fee options across BC. Look at those before paying for anything.
Why are Golden and Creston not listed with Cranbrook?
Because their clock matches the booking calendar. Golden moves to UTC-7 all year from 1 November 2026, and Creston stopped changing its clocks long ago, so neither needs the hour of translation this page is about. Both are served on identical terms; they simply do not share Cranbrook’s time-zone question.
I cross into Alberta for work or family. Does that change anything?
Only where you sit for the session. A BC Registered Clinical Counsellor sees you while you are in British Columbia, so the session happens from home in Cranbrook, from Fernie, or from anywhere else on the BC side of the Crowsnest Pass, rather than from a worksite or a visit across the line. If you would rather keep going while you are working on the Alberta side, say so when you book: one counsellor here can see clients there, and it decides who you book with.
Can I have EMDR from Cranbrook?
Yes, by secure video, with the counsellor on the roster who offers it. Preparation comes first and includes practising the bilateral stimulation itself, usually eye movements following a point on screen or tapping you do yourself. The Cranbrook difference is the aftermath: a processing session can leave you tired, and finishing it at home means no drive over a pass afterwards.
Do you see people in Kimberley, Fernie, Sparwood, Elkford, Invermere or Radium Hot Springs?
Yes, on exactly the same terms as Cranbrook. Every session is by secure video, so Kimberley, Fernie, Sparwood, Elkford, Invermere, Radium Hot Springs and the rest of East Kootenay are served the same way: a Registered Clinical Counsellor, a free 30-minute consultation first, and no travel at either end.
What does counselling cost in Cranbrook?
From Cranbrook, an individual session is $140 for 50 minutes, couples counselling $175 for 50 minutes and an EMDR intensive $190 for 90 minutes, and the first 30-minute consultation is free. The fee is the same anywhere in BC. Many extended health plans reimburse a Registered Clinical Counsellor, but whether yours does is plan-dependent, so check it for the RCC designation before the first paid session.
Who would I see in Cranbrook?
People in Cranbrook see Camille Granda, RCC, CCC, who works in English and Tagalog or Savneet Singh, RCC, who works in English and Punjabi. Each is a Registered Clinical Counsellor taking new clients by secure video, and the free consultation is with whichever of them you choose, so the person you meet first is the person you would work with.
Do you have an office in Cranbrook, or is it online?
Online. There is no office in Cranbrook or anywhere else: every session is by secure video, and the confirmation email carries the link. Nothing to install and no waiting room, so you can join from home, a parked car or a closed office in Cranbrook.
