Counselling for Langford, with Camille

Langford grew by almost a third in five years, and an appointment in Victoria still means Highway 1 both ways.

Langford has grown faster than the region around it. The 2021 Census counted 46,584 residents, up 31.8% in five years against 8.0% for Greater Victoria, and 42.7% of residents aged five and over had been living in a different municipality five years earlier. It is younger, too: a median age of 38.4 against the region’s 44.8, and more children as a share of the city.

That shapes what counselling here is up against. Six in ten residents with a regular workplace commute to another municipality, so the week already includes the Highway 1 corridor at both ends, and for anyone who arrived recently the friends and family they would lean on may still be in the place they left. A Registered Clinical Counsellor by video is the one appointment that adds no drive.

Her focus is trauma, anxiety and chronic stress, grief, loss and life transitions. Sessions run in English or Tagalog, including moving between them within one session.

Why a video session suits Langford

  • No Highway 1 at either end, The session is the hour itself, from a room at home, rather than the McKenzie-to-Colwood stretch twice over and the parking in between.
  • Colwood to Sooke, on the same terms, View Royal, Colwood, Metchosin, the Highlands and Sooke get identical access, with no penalty for living further out along Highway 14.
  • Fits around school runs and shifts, The booking calendar shows each counsellor’s real open times, and a session needs only a private room, not a gap long enough to drive somewhere.
  • Start before you know anyone here, No referral and no family doctor needed first, which matters in a city where so many people have only recently arrived.

Sessions in English or Tagalog

Camille works in English and Tagalog, including moving between them inside one session. For a lot of people that is the difference between explaining a feeling and being understood the first time, and it does not require travelling to a bigger city to find it.

What Camille works with

Trauma

Difficult or overwhelming experiences, worked through at a pace you set, building safety and a sense of control first, rather than going straight at the hardest thing.

Anxiety and chronic stress

The patterns underneath high-functioning anxiety, perfectionism and burnout. The kind almost nobody around you can see, because you are still delivering.

Grief, loss and life transitions

Room for the changes you chose and the ones you did not: endings, identity shifts, and the uncertainty that arrives with them.

Camille may suit you if you are

  • Anxious, overwhelmed, burnt out, or running on empty
  • In the middle of a big change, a relationship, a move, a loss
  • Carrying something from before that still shapes how you feel and how you are with people
  • Tired of perfectionism, people-pleasing, or never quite feeling like enough
  • Trying to make sense of yourself alongside culture, family expectations, and what got handed down
  • Disconnected from your body, your feelings, or who you actually are
  • Wanting better relationships and boundaries that hold
  • Looking for someone who brings warmth and practical tools, not just listening

You do not need to have everything figured out before you start. Sometimes knowing that something is not working any more is enough of a reason to begin.

Questions people in Langford ask

Is there a public mental-health team on the West Shore, or is it all in Victoria?

There is one for the West Shore. Island Health’s Western Communities (formerly Westshore) Mental Health & Substance Use team is the single access point for adult mental-health and substance-use services in the Western Communities, and access starts with a phone call to 250-370-5799; that call also settles which team serves your address. Private counselling is a separate question: a BC Registered Clinical Counsellor can see you anywhere in the province by secure video.

Do I need a family doctor or a referral first?

No. Counselling with an RCC is accessed directly, with no referral and no diagnosis. That matters for anyone who has moved recently and has not yet found a doctor. If medication or a diagnosis might be part of the picture, 8-1-1 is a reasonable first call, and the counsellor says plainly when a physician should be involved.

I commute into Victoria. When would sessions fit?

Wherever the booking calendar shows a time that suits you; it shows each counsellor’s real open times. A session can be taken from home on a day you are not driving in, or from a closed room at work. A session from a parked car is workable. A session while driving is not, and is rescheduled rather than held.

We moved here recently. Is it too soon to start counselling?

No. A move is one of the ordinary reasons people start, and there is no need to wait and see whether things settle on their own. A free 30-minute consultation is a reasonable first step, and deciding not to go further afterwards costs nothing.

Is there a free option on the West Shore to try first?

Yes. Island Health’s Western Communities team takes calls directly and offers a same-day, single-session counselling appointment. Pacific Centre Family Services Association provides most of its funded counselling at no cost, and 8-1-1 connects to HealthLink BC at any hour. If one of those fits what you need, use it.

This is not a crisis service. If you need urgent support in BC right now: Emergency services 911 · Suicide Crisis Helpline 9-8-8. In immediate danger, call 911.
