Counselling in Tagalog for Langford

Filipino residents are a larger share of Langford than of Greater Victoria, 3.0% against 2.2%, and still a small community.

Westpeak Wellness offers counselling in Tagalog or English for Langford, by secure video with a Registered Clinical Counsellor who is a native Tagalog speaker. Sessions cover anxiety, trauma, grief, family and immigration stress, and can move between the two languages within the hour. The first 30-minute consultation is free.

Updated October 2, 2026

In the 2021 Census 1,405 Langford residents were counted as Filipino and 670 gave Tagalog as their mother tongue, about 1.4% of the city (Statistics Canada, 2021 Census Profile). That is a real community but a small one, in a city that grew by almost a third in five years, and for many families who moved here the nearest relatives are in the Lower Mainland or overseas rather than down the road.

That makes the language harder to find, not less needed. Without video, the realistic choices from the West Shore have been counselling in English with a parent or partner translating, or a long trip to reach somebody who speaks Tagalog. Video puts a Tagalog-speaking counsellor on the same screen as the person who needs one, with no highway and no sailing.

Sessions run in Tagalog, in English, or moving between the two as the conversation needs, which is what most bilingual people do without planning to. Nothing about the fee or the availability changes with the language.

Questions people in Langford ask

Is the Filipino community in Langford big enough for this to matter?

It is smaller than Surrey’s or Vancouver’s, and this page does not pretend otherwise. What matters is whether a counsellor speaks your language, and on the West Shore the realistic way to find one is by video.

Can a parent join in Tagalog while I join in English?

Yes. Family sessions can move between Tagalog and English, and family members can join from different places, as long as everyone is in British Columbia during the session.

Are Colwood, View Royal and Sooke covered?

Yes, with Metchosin and the Highlands. Where on the West Shore you live makes no difference to access.

The path from first contact to the end of session one.

For the wider picture of accessing counselling from Langford: waitlists, the health authority, and what exists locally, counselling in Langford covers it. Langford grew by almost a third in five years, and an appointment in Victoria still means Highway 1 both ways.

This is not a crisis service. If you need urgent support in BC, call or text 9-8-8 at any hour, or 310-6789 for the BC Mental Health Support Line. In immediate danger, call 911.
