Delta is one municipality containing three places that do not much resemble each other. North Delta sits against Surrey and shares its communities and its pace. Ladner is a smaller, older river town. Tsawwassen is at the end of a peninsula with a ferry terminal on it. "A counsellor in Delta" tells a resident of any of the three almost nothing about whether that counsellor is reachable.
What they have in common is that local provision is thin relative to the population, and that reaching the Lower Mainland's depth of specialists means a drive that is longer than the map suggests — through a tunnel that decides how long your evening takes.
A tunnel, a ferry terminal, and North Delta's own case
The Massey Tunnel is the local variable everything else is scheduled around. An appointment in Vancouver or Richmond is a different proposition at 4pm than at 11am, and a weekly commitment that depends on the tunnel behaving is a weekly commitment that will eventually be missed.
North Delta's situation is Surrey's situation. The Punjabi-speaking community here is substantial and continuous with Surrey's, and it brings the same dynamic: a strong community, and a corresponding concern about privacy that keeps people from walking into a local clinic where they may be recognised. Punjabi-speaking counselling for Surrey is written about that specifically, and applies directly across the boundary.
Ladner and Tsawwassen are small towns for these purposes. Fewer counsellors, less choice of modality, and the same privacy arithmetic that applies in any place where people know each other. For anything specific — EMDR, structured couples work — the local field narrows to very little.
Shift work at Deltaport and the ferry terminal does not fit a standing slot. Port and terminal rosters change, and evening availability with no travel either side is what makes attendance realistic rather than aspirational.

Yes, and planning for it from the start works better than discovering it later. Booking block by block around a roster, with gaps between blocks, is a normal pattern and pausing costs nothing.
There are counsellors in Delta already. Why this?
For plenty of people there is no reason, and you would be told so on a consultation call. What a local option costs some people here is the privacy question — a familiar waiting room in a community where families know each other. A practice with no office anywhere removes the question.
