Food processing and agriculture employ a large Filipino workforce on shifts that do not fit a weekday appointment.

Abbotsford runs on agriculture, food processing and transport, and a substantial part of that workforce is Filipino. Those are jobs with early starts, long days and seasonal peaks, and none of that arranges itself around a counsellor with weekday afternoon availability. The appointment that assumes a free Tuesday is the appointment missed twice and then abandoned.

The distance compounds it. When the counsellor who fits is further west, the answer has been a drive at the end of a shift, and an appointment that depends on a drive is easy to start and stop. By video, the session happens wherever you have a private room; availability of Tagalog-speaking counsellors varies, and BCACC’s Find a Counsellor directory filters by language.

Sessions run in Tagalog, in English, or moving between the two as the conversation needs, which is what most bilingual people do without planning to. Nothing about the fee or the availability changes with the language.

The middle column is the point. The choice is not made in advance.

## Questions people in Abbotsford ask

**Are there Tagalog-speaking counsellors in Abbotsford?**

Very few. Most in the province are in the Lower Mainland, and video is what removes the drive rather than the shortage.

**Does this cover the eastern valley?**

Yes, on the same terms and with no distance penalty for being further out. Mission has a page of its own.

**Can I book around a seasonal schedule?**

Yes. Blocks with gaps between them are normal here and there is no cost to pausing.

For the wider picture of accessing counselling from Abbotsford: waitlists, the health authority, and what exists locally, [counselling in Abbotsford](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/online-counselling/abbotsford) covers it. Fraser Valley distances make virtual sessions less a convenience than the thing that makes attending possible.
