# Punjabi-speaking counselling, by region

Sessions run in Punjabi, in English, or moving between the two, whichever the moment calls for. Because the practice is virtual, where you live changes what is available to you locally, but not what is available here.

Westpeak Wellness offers online counselling in Punjabi, in English, or both, with a Registered Clinical Counsellor, by secure video anywhere in British Columbia. The regional pages describe what Punjabi-speaking mental-health support looks like in Surrey, Abbotsford, Vancouver, Kelowna, Kamloops and Prince George, and what changes when the counsellor does not need to be in the same city.

## These pages do not all make the same argument

That is worth saying at the top, because the obvious assumption, that a page for each region says the same thing with the place name swapped, is wrong here, and a reader who assumes it will read the wrong page for where they live.

Outside the Lower Mainland, virtually every Punjabi-speaking clinical counsellor in British Columbia with an office is hours away. In Surrey, Abbotsford and Vancouver the opposite is true, and pretending otherwise would be transparently false to anybody who lives there. So those pages argue something different, and it turns out to be the stronger argument anyway.

[![A stylised map of British Columbia with a central video-session hub linked by dotted lines to Prince George, Kamloops, Kelowna, Abbotsford, Surrey, Vancouver, Nanaimo and Victoria, showing that sessions reach every region of the province.](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/img/bc-reach.svg) (full size, opens in a new tab)](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/img/bc-reach.svg)

Every region of the province, from one virtual practice.

## Where the nearest Punjabi-speaking counsellor is hours away

In these regions a virtual practice is not a cheaper alternative to seeing somebody in person. It is realistically the only option that exists. Every one of these pages carries the local population figure and the source it came from.

### [Punjabi-speaking counselling for Kamloops](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/punjabi-counselling/kamloops)

the Thompson-Nicola

South Asian residents are the largest racialized group in Kamloops, and Punjabi is the most common non-official language spoken at home. Punjabi-speaking counsellors are not.

### [Punjabi-speaking counselling for Prince George](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/punjabi-counselling/prince-george)

Northern BC

Northern BC covers a vast area, and the choice narrows again if you want sessions in Punjabi. Virtual access adds a route that does not depend on the drive.

### [Punjabi-speaking counselling for Kelowna](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/punjabi-counselling/kelowna)

the Okanagan

Kelowna's Punjabi-speaking population has grown by half in five years. Sessions in Punjabi by video work anywhere in the valley.

### [Punjabi-speaking counselling for Saanich](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/punjabi-counselling/saanich)

Greater Victoria

Most of the Capital Region’s Punjabi-speaking community lives in Saanich. Punjabi-speaking counsellors are mostly a ferry away.

### [Punjabi-speaking counselling for Vernon](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/punjabi-counselling/vernon)

the North Okanagan

About 505 people in Vernon have Punjabi as their mother tongue. A community that size is easy to overlook, and easy to be recognised in.

### [Punjabi-speaking counselling for Courtenay](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/punjabi-counselling/courtenay)

the Comox Valley

The Comox Valley’s Punjabi-speaking community is small, and so is the chance of finding a counsellor in the valley who works in Punjabi.

### [Punjabi-speaking counselling for Langford](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/punjabi-counselling/langford)

the West Shore and Greater Victoria

Langford’s Punjabi-speaking community is small, and the Punjabi-speaking counsellors with offices are concentrated on the other side of the Strait.

### [Punjabi-speaking counselling for Cranbrook](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/punjabi-counselling/cranbrook)

the East Kootenay

Punjabi is the most common non-official language spoken at home in Cranbrook. The community is small, which makes a local Punjabi-speaking counsellor unlikely.

### [Punjabi-speaking counselling for Campbell River](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/punjabi-counselling/campbell-river)

the North Island

Campbell River’s Punjabi-speaking community is small, and that is the point: a community this size is unlikely to have a counsellor in town who speaks it.

## Where there is no shortage, and the barrier is something else

Surrey has the largest Punjabi-speaking population of any city in Canada and no shortage of Punjabi-speaking counsellors. Abbotsford and Vancouver are not far behind. If a local office suits you, seeing somebody locally is a perfectly good choice and you would be told so on a consultation call.

The reason people write in from these seven cities is narrower and harder to say out loud: in a community that interconnected, the counsellor who comes recommended is often inside the same networks you are. Confidentiality is a legal duty everywhere. Distance is what makes it feel true.

### [Punjabi-speaking counselling for Surrey](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/punjabi-counselling/surrey)

the Lower Mainland

Surrey has more Punjabi speakers than anywhere else in Canada, and no shortage of Punjabi-speaking counsellors. What it is short of is distance.

### [Punjabi-speaking counselling for Abbotsford](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/punjabi-counselling/abbotsford)

the Fraser Valley

Punjabi is the mother tongue of nearly a quarter of Abbotsford. In a city this size, that is not anonymity. It is a community where most people are two conversations apart.

### [Punjabi-speaking counselling for Vancouver](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/punjabi-counselling/vancouver)

the city proper, not the suburbs

Punjabi is the fifth mother tongue in Vancouver, behind Cantonese and Mandarin. Being multilingual as a city is not the same as being multilingual in your language.

### [Punjabi-speaking counselling for Maple Ridge](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/punjabi-counselling/maple-ridge)

Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows

A small Punjabi-speaking community a bridge away from the largest one in the province, which is close enough to visit and too far for a weekly appointment.

### [Punjabi-speaking counselling for Mission](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/punjabi-counselling/mission)

the north side of the Fraser Valley

Punjabi is Mission’s largest language after English, and the Valley’s Punjabi-speaking practices are concentrated across the river in Abbotsford.

### [Punjabi-speaking counselling for North Vancouver](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/punjabi-counselling/north-vancouver)

the North Shore

Punjabi is a small language on the North Shore: 745 mother-tongue speakers across three municipalities. Small communities are the ones services are least often built around.

### [Punjabi-speaking counselling for New Westminster](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/punjabi-counselling/new-westminster)

New Westminster and Queensborough

A Punjabi-speaking community of a few thousand, one river away from the largest in the province. The usual answer has been the trip to Surrey.

## Who you would be working with

[Savneet Singh, RCC](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/practitioners/savneet-singh) works in Punjabi and English, including moving between the two inside a session, and is taking new clients. She works with anxiety, depression, trauma and attachment patterns, and personality disorders, with adults, one to one. Her profile is also written [ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿੱਚ](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/practitioners/savneet-singh/pa), and fifteen of her 27 BC city pages have a Punjabi twin.

## If your region is not listed

It makes no difference to the session. The practice is registered across British Columbia and works with clients anywhere in the province. The regions above have pages because a checkable population figure could be found for them, not because they are the only places served. Nanaimo, the Kootenays and the Peace are equally real, and they stay off this list until the numbers can be sourced properly rather than estimated.

The service page on [Punjabi-speaking counselling](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/services/punjabi-counselling) covers how sessions run, [counselling for South Asian adults](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/services/punjabi-counselling) covers the cultural ground in more depth, and [Punjabi-speaking couples](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/for/punjabi-speaking-couples) covers work with two people rather than one. There is also a [city-by-city index](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/online-counselling) for counselling in English, and the whole of this page [ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿੱਚ](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/punjabi).
