# Counselling for Victoria, with Camille

Updated October 16, 2026

Camille works with clients in Victoria entirely by secure video. What changes is what getting to an appointment in person would have cost you, and that is the part this removes.

On the Island, specialist care has often meant a ferry, a day off, and a return sailing. It no longer has to.

Victoria has a solid local counselling community, and for a lot of people it covers what they need. Where it runs out is specialisation, a particular modality, a particular language, or a practitioner with specific experience in what you are bringing.

Historically the answer was a ferry. A single appointment on the mainland means a sailing each way, a day given up, and a cost that turns weekly therapy into an impossibility. Which meant the practical choice was usually not "which practitioner is the best fit" but "which practitioner is on this side of the water".

Her focus is trauma, anxiety and chronic stress, grief, loss and life transitions. Sessions run in English or Tagalog, including moving between them within one session.

## Why a video session suits Victoria

- **No sailing, no day lost**

  ,

The main practical change. Weekly work becomes sustainable in a way a ferry schedule never allowed.
- **Access to mainland specialisation**

  ,

Modality and language options that were previously a full travel day away.
- **Works up-Island too**

  ,

Nanaimo, Courtenay, Campbell River, and smaller communities where local options thin out considerably.
- **Continuity through moves**

  ,

Island to mainland or back, common here, without restarting with a new counsellor.

## Sessions in English or Tagalog

Camille works in English and Tagalog, including moving between them inside one session. For a lot of people that is the difference between explaining a feeling and being understood the first time, and it does not require travelling to a bigger city to find it.

## What Camille works with

### Trauma

Difficult or overwhelming experiences, worked through at a pace you set, building safety and a sense of control first, rather than going straight at the hardest thing.

### Anxiety and chronic stress

The patterns underneath high-functioning anxiety, perfectionism and burnout. The kind almost nobody around you can see, because you are still delivering.

### Grief, loss and life transitions

Room for the changes you chose and the ones you did not: endings, identity shifts, and the uncertainty that arrives with them.

### Camille may suit you if you are

- Anxious, overwhelmed, burnt out, or running on empty
- In the middle of a big change, a relationship, a move, a loss
- Carrying something from before that still shapes how you feel and how you are with people
- Tired of perfectionism, people-pleasing, or never quite feeling like enough
- Trying to make sense of yourself alongside culture, family expectations, and what got handed down
- Disconnected from your body, your feelings, or who you actually are
- Wanting better relationships and boundaries that hold
- Looking for someone who brings warmth and practical tools, not just listening

Every region of the province, from one virtual practice.

> You do not need to have everything figured out before you start. Sometimes knowing that something is not working any more is enough of a reason to begin.

## Questions people in Victoria ask

**Can a mainland counsellor see me on the Island?**

Yes. Registration is province-wide, so a BC-registered counsellor can work with clients anywhere in British Columbia by secure video, under the same ethical and privacy standards as in person.

**Do you work with people further up-Island?**

Yes: Nanaimo, Duncan, the Comox Valley, Campbell River, and smaller communities. Distance from Victoria makes no difference to a virtual session.

**Is online therapy actually as good as in-person?**

The research finds outcomes broadly comparable for the concerns most people bring, with some genuine trade-offs. The guide on online versus in-person therapy sets out both sides.

**Is there something free I should try first?**

Yes, and it is genuinely good. Island Health's CARES service at 1119 Pembroke Street offers same-day assessment and walk-in counselling, in person or virtually, with no referral and no wait. If that meets what you need, use it. Private counselling is the better fit when the work is ongoing rather than immediate, or when you want a particular approach or language and would rather choose from the whole province.

**Can sessions be in Tagalog?**

Yes: in English or Tagalog, or moving between them as the conversation needs. Most people switch without planning to, particularly when something is hard to say, and nothing about the session requires picking one and staying there.
