# Trauma Therapy and Counselling in Vancouver, BC

Trauma Therapy for people in Vancouver is with Camille Granda or Savneet Singh, both Registered Clinical Counsellors, by secure video, with a free 15-minute consultation, no referral, and receipts your extended health plan can process.

In Vancouver, some of the heaviest exposure in the province belongs to people who were at work when it happened.

Updated October 17, 2026

Vancouver concentrates the hospitals, the ambulance service, the emergency departments and the downtown outreach work, and a large number of people here absorb other people's worst days as a condition of employment. Vicarious trauma has a specific shape: it accumulates rather than arriving, so there is rarely a single incident to point at, which is exactly why it goes unaddressed for years.

The other reason it goes unaddressed is professional. People whose competence is the job are slow to describe themselves as affected by it, and a workplace culture that treats resilience as a personality trait rather than a finite resource makes that worse. Sessions outside the workplace, with no colleague in the building, are for a lot of people the only version they will actually attend.

Sessions are $140 for 50 minutes (BCACC’s 2026 fee guide recommends $140 to $175) and start with a [free 15-minute video call](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/book), no charge, no card, and no obligation to book anything afterwards. Many BC extended health plans reimburse a Registered Clinical Counsellor; whether yours does is plan-dependent, so check it for the RCC designation before the first paid session. [Fees and extended-health cover](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/pricing) are set out in full.

For trauma work in Vancouver, a memory that needs a longer run than a weekly session can move to the EMDR Intensive later, once stability is in place: $190 for 90 minutes with Camille Granda. ## Getting counselling in Vancouver

Vancouver has more counsellors per resident than anywhere else in the province, and the constraint is almost never distance. It is that the ones taking new clients are booked, and the commute to a downtown or Kitsilano office at rush hour costs more time than the session itself.

There is no shortage of private practices here. What there is a shortage of is openings: the practices with the strongest reputations tend to hold waitlists, and a clinic that can see you this month is often one you found because nobody else could take you.

[![A stylised map of British Columbia with a central video-session hub linked by dotted lines to Prince George, Kamloops, Kelowna, Abbotsford, Surrey, Vancouver, Nanaimo and Victoria, showing that sessions reach every region of the province.](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/img/bc-reach.svg) (full size, opens in a new tab)](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/img/bc-reach.svg)

Anywhere in BC includes Vancouver. There is no catchment, because there is no office.

Public mental-health intake for Vancouver runs through [Vancouver Coastal Health](https://www.vch.ca/en/service/mental-health-substance-use-services). That route matters if you are seeking publicly funded care. It has no bearing on seeing a Registered Clinical Counsellor privately, which needs no referral and no diagnosis. See [how RCCs, psychologists and social workers differ](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/compare/rcc-vs-psychologist-vs-social-worker-bc).

**Removing the commute is not a small convenience in this city. A 50-minute session that costs ninety minutes of travel either side is the appointment people quietly stop attending around week six.**

## What trauma therapy involves

[![Three stacked bands describing nervous-system states: hyperarousal above the window, the window of tolerance where thinking and feeling work together, and hypoarousal below it.](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/img/window-of-tolerance.svg) (full size, opens in a new tab)](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/img/window-of-tolerance.svg)

Therapy works inside the middle band, which is why capacity is built before memory is opened.

The full picture: how sessions are structured, what the first one is like, and what it does not do, is on the page for [online trauma therapy across BC](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/services/emdr-therapy#online-trauma-therapy-in-bc-with-and-without-emdr). If you are still working out what you need, [the short questionnaire](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/tools/which-service) is a quicker route than reading all of them, and [what to expect in a first session](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/guides/what-to-expect-first-therapy-session) covers the part most people are actually nervous about.

## Questions from Vancouver

**Is this different from PTSD from a single incident?**

Often, yes. Cumulative exposure tends to present as numbness, cynicism and a shortening fuse rather than as flashbacks, and it responds to being treated as what it is rather than as burnout.

**Can sessions fit around a rotating hospital roster?**

Yes. Booking in blocks around a roster, with gaps between them, is an ordinary pattern here and pausing between blocks costs nothing.

**Is trauma therapy available in East Vancouver, Kitsilano or the West End?**

Yes. Trauma Therapy by secure video reaches East Vancouver, Kitsilano and the West End exactly as it reaches Vancouver: there is no office to get to and the same fee applies however far out you are. Vancouver Coastal Health is the public route for Vancouver and the rest of its region; this is the private one, and it needs no referral.
