Many [extended health plans](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/resources/does-my-plan-cover-counselling-bc) reimburse a Registered Clinical Counsellor, depending on the plan, so check yours; MSP does not. Receipts are issued for every session, and the [fees](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/pricing) are published in full. On a calendar-year plan, sessions held by 31 December count against this year: [using benefits before the plan year ends](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/resources/counselling-benefits-before-year-end-bc).

Surrey is one of the fastest-growing cities in Canada and home to one of the largest Punjabi-speaking populations anywhere outside South Asia. It is also a city where the mental-health conversation has changed enormously in a decade, and where a great many people still have not had it out loud with anyone.

Westpeak Wellness is rooted here. That matters less as a marketing line than as a practical fact about the work: you will not have to explain what *log kya kahenge* means, why moving out is not a straightforward option, or why a family's expectations carry the weight they do. That context is the starting point rather than something to be established first.

## How private is the video?

Bookings and client records are held in **Cliniko**, the practice’s booking and records system, in an account on Cliniko’s Canadian region. Records are encrypted and access-controlled. Sessions are by secure video: the link arrives by email and opens in your browser, with nothing to install. Sessions are **never recorded**, not for notes, not for supervision, not for training. The [privacy policy](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/privacy) sets out the rest.

## What is specific about seeking therapy in Surrey

The barrier here is usually not availability, Surrey has more Punjabi-speaking counsellors than anywhere else in BC. It is **privacy**. [Punjabi-speaking counselling for Surrey](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/punjabi-counselling/surrey) is written about that specifically, why the counsellor who comes recommended is often the one connected to the people you would least want to know. In a community this interconnected, the concern people voice most often is not whether therapy works. It is who might see them walking into a clinic, and whether it will get back to family.

That concern is not paranoia, and it is not something to be talked out of. It is a realistic assessment of how information moves in a tight community. A fully virtual practice answers it directly: there is no waiting room, no parking lot, and no building. Nobody sees you arrive because there is nowhere to arrive.

The second pattern specific to this community is who tends to come first. Frequently it is the second generation: adults in their twenties and thirties who grew up here, carry the family's expectations, and are the first in the family to consider therapy at all. There is often no template and nobody to ask. That is covered in more depth on the page for [first- and second-generation South Asian adults](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/for/first-gen-south-asian-adults).

**South Surrey has its own public door.** On the Semiahmoo Peninsula, Fraser Health's adult mental health intake is the White Rock/South Surrey Mental Health and Substance Use Centre on Russell Avenue in White Rock, not the Surrey centre on 108th Avenue, and both accept a self-referral. The [White Rock and South Surrey page](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/online-counselling/white-rock) covers the Peninsula itself.

[![A stylised map of British Columbia with a central video-session hub linked by dotted lines to Prince George, Kamloops, Kelowna, Abbotsford, Surrey, Vancouver, Nanaimo and Victoria, showing that sessions reach every region of the province.](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/img/bc-reach.svg) (full size, opens in a new tab)](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/img/bc-reach.svg)

Every region of the province, from one virtual practice.

Why virtual, specifically here

## What changes when distance stops mattering

### No one sees you attend

The most common reason people here choose virtual over a local clinic. No waiting room, no building, no chance encounter.

### Punjabi, English, or both

Including switching mid-sentence, which is how a lot of people in Surrey actually think and speak.

### Continuity if you move

Registration covers all of BC, so a move to Abbotsford, Vancouver, or anywhere in the province does not end the work.

Not sure which kind of support fits? A [free 15-minute consultation](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/book) is the fastest way to find out, and it is a fine outcome if the answer is a referral somewhere else.

### Depression

It gets called laziness first, usually by the person experiencing it.

Questions from Surrey

## Language, family, and the cost of the commute

Surrey is one of the most linguistically diverse cities in Canada, and the practical shortage is not counsellors in general. It is counsellors who can work in the language a family argument actually happened in. Being able to run a session in Punjabi is not a convenience here; it removes an entire layer of translation from material that is hard enough to say once.

The second thing a virtual practice changes in Surrey is time. Commutes across the region are substantial, and a weekly appointment requiring travel and parking is realistically a two-hour commitment rather than a fifty-minute one. That is frequently the difference between sustaining counselling and abandoning it in week five, which is a scheduling problem masquerading as a motivation problem.

The third is privacy within a community. Where extended family and community networks are dense, attending a local clinic can be a disclosure in itself. A session from home, with no waiting room, removes that consideration entirely.

[Counselling in Punjabi](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/services/punjabi-counselling), [South Asian mental health](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/services/punjabi-counselling) and [counselling for first-generation South Asian adults](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/for/first-gen-south-asian-adults) cover the specific ground this comes up on most.

[![A four-step diagram: a free fifteen-minute video consultation, an intake form sent before the session, the fifty-minute first session covering history and goals, and a decision at the end about whether and how often to continue.](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/img/first-session-flow.svg) (full size, opens in a new tab)](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/img/first-session-flow.svg)

The path from first contact to the end of session one.

## Before you book

**Will anyone in my family find out?**

No. Counselling is confidential, and whether you tell anyone is entirely your decision. Because sessions are virtual there is no clinic to be seen entering. The only limits on confidentiality are risk of serious harm and a court order.

**Can I have sessions in Punjabi?**

Yes: in Punjabi, English, or moving between them within a session. You do not need to decide in advance which you want.

**I live with family and have no private space. What do people do?**

This is one of the most common practical questions here, and there are workable answers, a parked car, a session scheduled during a work break from the office, headphones and a closed door. It is worth raising on the consultation call so it can be solved before the first session rather than during it.

**Surrey has plenty of Punjabi-speaking counsellors. Why look outside it?**

For many people there is no reason to, and you would be told so on a consultation call. The reason people write in from Surrey is narrower: in a community this interconnected, the counsellor who comes recommended is often connected to the very people you would least want to know you are going. Confidentiality is a legal duty everywhere, distance is what makes it feel true.

**I am the first person in my family to consider therapy. Where do I even start?**

That is the most common position people arrive in from Surrey, and there is no template because the generation before did not have one either. A free 15-minute consultation is a reasonable place to work out what you are actually looking for, with no obligation attached, and if somebody else would be a better fit, you would be told that plainly.

**Do my parents have to be involved if the problem is my parents?**

No. Individual counselling is yours, and what you discuss stays confidential within the usual legal limits. Some people later choose to bring a family member into a session and some never do; both are ordinary. Nothing is disclosed to family because they asked.

**Is there free counselling in Surrey, including for couples?**

Some, and it is worth checking first. SFU Surrey Community Counselling offers free individual and group counselling to people who live in Surrey and the Lower Mainland, provided by Counsellor-Trainees in SFU’s Master’s program in Counselling Psychology under the supervision of registered counsellors and psychologists. Relationship struggles are among the concerns it lists, though couples sessions are not, and it does not see SFU students. Fraser Health’s Surrey Mental Health and Substance Use Centre on 108th Avenue takes self-referrals from adults 19 and over for assessment, treatment, and individual and group therapy. [Free and low-cost counselling across BC](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/resources/low-cost-counselling-bc) lists more. Here, an individual session is $140 and a couples session $175, each 50 minutes, after a free 15-minute consultation.

**Do you see people in Guildford, Newton, Fleetwood, Cloverdale or South Surrey?**

Yes, on exactly the same terms as Surrey. Every session is by secure video, so Guildford, Newton, Fleetwood, Cloverdale, South Surrey and the rest of Lower Mainland are served the same way: a Registered Clinical Counsellor, a free 15-minute consultation first, and no travel at either end.

**What does counselling cost in Surrey?**

From Surrey, an individual session is $140 for 50 minutes, couples counselling $175 for 50 minutes and an EMDR intensive $190 for 90 minutes, and the first 15-minute consultation is free. The fee is the same anywhere in BC. Many extended health plans reimburse a Registered Clinical Counsellor, but whether yours does is plan-dependent, so check it for the RCC designation before the first paid session.

**Who would I see in Surrey?**

People in Surrey see Camille Granda, RCC, CCC, who works in English and Tagalog or Savneet Singh, RCC, who works in English and Punjabi. Each is a Registered Clinical Counsellor taking new clients by secure video, and the free consultation is with whichever of them you choose, so the person you meet first is the person you would work with.

**Do you have an office in Surrey, or is it online?**

Online. There is no office in Surrey or anywhere else: every session is by secure video, and the confirmation email carries the link. Nothing to install and no waiting room, so you can join from home, a parked car or a closed office in Surrey.
