# Online counselling in Kelowna, BC

Online counselling for people in Kelowna is with Camille Granda or Savneet Singh, both Registered Clinical Counsellors, by secure video in English, Punjabi or Tagalog depending on the counsellor, with a free 15-minute consultation and no referral needed.

The Okanagan's population has grown faster than its mental-health services have, and specialist options remain thin.

Also serving West Kelowna, Peachland, Lake Country and the rest of Okanagan, by the same video sessions.

Many [extended health plans](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/resources/does-my-plan-cover-counselling-bc) reimburse a Registered Clinical Counsellor, depending on the plan, so check yours; MSP does not. Receipts are issued for every session, and the [fees](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/pricing) are published in full. On a calendar-year plan, sessions held by 31 December count against this year: [using benefits before the plan year ends](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/resources/counselling-benefits-before-year-end-bc).

Kelowna has grown quickly, and it has grown in a specific way: retirees, remote workers who left the coast, students at UBC Okanagan, and a large seasonal workforce in agriculture and tourism. Health and social services have not expanded at the same pace, and mental health is where that gap shows most clearly.

The result is that local options exist and openings vary, most of all at the specialist end: a particular modality, or a particular language.

## How private is the video?

Bookings and client records are held in **Cliniko**, the practice’s booking and records system, in an account on Cliniko’s Canadian region. Records are encrypted and access-controlled. Sessions are by secure video: the link arrives by email and opens in your browser, with nothing to install. Sessions are **never recorded**, not for notes, not for supervision, not for training. The [privacy policy](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/privacy) sets out the rest.

## What the Okanagan gap looks like

**Specialisation is where the choice narrows, not counsellors in general.** If what you need is a practitioner trained in a specific approach for what you are carrying, the Central Okanagan choice is narrower than the coast’s and openings vary; the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors’ directory shows who practises locally.

**Language narrows it again.** The Okanagan has a long-established South Asian community, particularly through agriculture, and if you want sessions in Punjabi the local choice is smaller still. Virtual sessions add a route to [counselling in Punjabi](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/services/punjabi-counselling) from anywhere in the valley, and [Punjabi-speaking counselling for Kelowna](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/punjabi-counselling/kelowna) covers what is and is not available locally.

**Seasonal work resists standard scheduling.** Agricultural and tourism employment peaks hard, and during a peak a fixed weekly daytime appointment is not attendable. Flexibility about timing, and no travel either side, is what makes therapy possible rather than theoretical during those months.

**Wildfire seasons have left a mark.** Recent years in the Interior have included evacuations, property loss, and repeated summers of smoke and alert. That is a genuine and recurring source of anxiety and trauma in this region, and it is the kind of thing people tend to describe as "everyone went through it" rather than as something worth addressing. It is worth addressing, [trauma therapy](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/services/individual-therapy) and [EMDR](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/services/emdr-therapy) are both well suited to a specific, identifiable event.

Every region of the province, from one virtual practice.

Why virtual, specifically here

## What changes when distance stops mattering

### Reaches specialisation that is not local

Modality and language options that the Central Okanagan list does not currently include.

### Works around seasonal peaks

No travel time either side of the session, so a session costs fifty minutes rather than an afternoon.

### Covers the wider Okanagan

West Kelowna, Lake Country and the smaller Interior communities where local coverage thins further. [Penticton and the South Okanagan](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/online-counselling/penticton) and [Vernon and the North Okanagan](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/online-counselling/vernon) have pages of their own.

### Continues through evacuation or travel

Anywhere in BC with a connection, which in a wildfire season is not a hypothetical benefit.

Not sure which kind of support fits? A [free 15-minute consultation](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/book) is the fastest way to find out, and it is a fine outcome if the answer is a referral somewhere else.

Questions from Kelowna

## Seasonality, in more than one sense

Kelowna has a seasonal economy and a seasonal population, and both shape what arrives in counselling here.

Tourism, hospitality, agriculture and construction produce income that varies substantially across the year, and a fixed weekly financial commitment is genuinely harder to plan around than it is on a salary. Saying so early changes how the work is structured. A concentrated block during a stable stretch frequently works better than a thin year-round schedule.

The region also has a significant retired and semi-retired population, which brings a particular cluster: loss of role after a career ends, caregiving for a partner, grief, and the specific isolation of having moved somewhere pleasant where you know few people. That last one is more common than it is discussed and it is a legitimate reason to book something.

Wildfire season has become a recurring feature rather than an occasional event, and its psychological effects are cumulative: evacuation alerts, smoke, and the anticipatory dread that now arrives with the summer. Repeated exposure to that pattern is a genuine stressor and it responds to the same trauma-informed work as any other; see [what trauma actually means](https://www.westpeakwellness.com/guides/what-trauma-actually-means).

The path from first contact to the end of session one.

## Before you book

**Do you work with people in Lake Country, Peachland, or West Kelowna?**

Yes. The practice covers all of British Columbia, so anywhere in the Okanagan works identically, with no drive into Kelowna either side of a session. Vernon and the North Okanagan have a page of their own.

**Can I get counselling about wildfire evacuation or loss?**

Yes. Evacuation, property loss, and repeated seasons of alert are legitimate reasons to seek support, and the fact that a whole community experienced it does not make your response to it less real.

**Are sessions available in Punjabi?**

Yes: in Punjabi, English, or both, without needing to travel to the coast to find it. The Kelowna Punjabi page covers what is and is not available locally, with the census figures behind it.

**I work the season. Can sessions stop and start?**

Yes, and in the Okanagan that is the normal pattern rather than the exception. Agricultural and hospitality work here runs on a season, and a schedule assuming the same weekday at the same time for six months straight does not survive contact with it. Booking block by block, with gaps, works, and nothing is lost by pausing. Better to plan for that than to book weekly, miss three, and conclude counselling did not suit you.

**Is there a free option I should try first?**

CMHA Kelowna runs a free virtual counselling programme for adults 25 and over, and it is worth looking at before paying for anything. Interior Health also provides mental-health and substance-use services across the Okanagan. Both are real options and this page is not an argument against using them.

**Everyone here went through the fires. Does mine really count?**

Yes. A shared experience does not become less real for being shared, and "other people had it worse" is one of the most reliable ways people talk themselves out of getting help. Evacuation, property loss and repeated seasons of alert are legitimate reasons to seek support, and a specific, identifiable event is precisely the kind of thing trauma therapy and EMDR are well suited to.

**Do you see people in West Kelowna, Peachland or Lake Country?**

Yes, on exactly the same terms as Kelowna. Every session is by secure video, so West Kelowna, Peachland, Lake Country and the rest of Okanagan are served the same way: a Registered Clinical Counsellor, a free 15-minute consultation first, and no travel at either end.

**What does counselling cost in Kelowna?**

From Kelowna, an individual session is $140 for 50 minutes, couples counselling $175 for 50 minutes and an EMDR intensive $190 for 90 minutes, and the first 15-minute consultation is free. The fee is the same anywhere in BC. Many extended health plans reimburse a Registered Clinical Counsellor, but whether yours does is plan-dependent, so check it for the RCC designation before the first paid session.

**Who would I see in Kelowna?**

People in Kelowna see Camille Granda, RCC, CCC, who works in English and Tagalog or Savneet Singh, RCC, who works in English and Punjabi. Each is a Registered Clinical Counsellor taking new clients by secure video, and the free consultation is with whichever of them you choose, so the person you meet first is the person you would work with.

**Do you have an office in Kelowna, or is it online?**

Online. There is no office in Kelowna or anywhere else: every session is by secure video, and the confirmation email carries the link. Nothing to install and no waiting room, so you can join from home, a parked car or a closed office in Kelowna.
